THAT SORT OF THING

It's a goddamn blues guitar
over the loud box. That
sort of thing, like museum
is a palindrome.
It's that sort of thing
that sorts things, the thing
that sorts like that weird
character in that 1934
french film or maybe
like that lonely woman
who records pain like
a watercolor or
it could be that
man that stands at
the end of the hall everyday.
It's all that and more.
It's the it of Jack Kerouac.
It's the it of Jack Kennedy.
It's the it of Jack the Mack
who lives in the crack.
It's the thing you didn't
know to hear, it's the thing
you couldn't block.
It's the inspirational quote
in your monthly newsletters
or the half-ass drawing
by one of the interns.
It's crying at the sight
of a book or a candle,
or a fucking
empty plastic cup.
It's not your style,
it's recreating your style.

It's like watching your
generation of allies for
the cause forget the
cause. It's when you're
alone. It's with 10,000
other souls churning up
to move or not moving
at all. It's that sort of thing.
