MARTHA MODENA VERTREACE is an NEA Fellow, and Distinguished Professor of English and poet-in-residence at Kennedy-King College, Chicago. Her books of poetry include Second House from the Corner, Smokeless Frame, and Dragon Lady: Tskumi, forthcoming from Riverstone Poetry Press. Her work continues to win regular Pushcart nominations. Other awards include "Significant Illinois Poet," a title bestowed by Gwendolyn Brooks; as well, Vertreace has been named as a Fellow of the Illinois Art Council and has won international awards and fellowships for her poetry in Wales, Scotland, and Nigeria.
